A Life Changing Adventure, December 11, 2007

Having read the story "A Tree for America", I knew I had to read this one as well. "Going Home" by Edd Voss is a well written story about a trucker, Ken Rainey, who helps a friend Bob Anjer by picking up his nephew, Danny Anjer in Riverside California to take him back east to Washington DC to live with Bob and his wife. Danny is a scared, angry 14 year old whose life had been uprooted when his parents died unexpectedly. His grandparents are unable to care for a teenager and when Bob said he'd take Danny into his home to raise him was just another change Danny did not want. The journey begins with Ken picking up Danny. When Danny begins to face his fears with Kens understanding along the way, the journey takes on a life of it's own.

I was swept away with this touching story and I felt as if I was along for the ride the whole way. When my daughter read "Going Home", she told me she could relate to Danny's character, being adopted as an older child she could relate with being shuffled around and being scared of the unknown not knowing if she was going to be happy or accepted for who she was. My daughter said, "Reading the story made me feel good that I am not the only one who has those feelings. It is nice to read about it in a story."

Edd is more than a talented story teller, he has a way of drawing the human element into his stories touching on emotions and a deeper meaning that reaches way below the surface.

I would encourage everyone to read this story. These seven chapters will sit beside Mr. Voss's first book and be one that will be read and enjoyed in my home.

Felt like I was along for the ride..., December 10, 2007

I had the pleasure of readng "Going Home" and the pleasure was all mine. Having never driven across the country or been a truck driver I appreciate the way author Edd Voss writes, he gives the reader a glimpse of a trucker's view behind the wheel and this tale adds a warm touch, the transport of a boy who suffered tremendous losses is along for the ride too.
Not only did I feel as if I took a trip physically, I was emotionally on a journey too, the journey of finding a person's home and what being "home" is all about. I recommend this wonderful story to all ages.
